• There are women and girls suffering from gender based violence on a routine basis. Alleviating this problem requires constant attention, resources and mitigation: comprising of training for professionals, adequate funds, assistance, shelters etc.
• It is a fundamental human rights responsibility of every state to protect against such violence. In Estonia, in 2021, 753 crimes of sexual nature was recorded, of which 120 criminal cases were sent to court.
• What is happening in Ukraine, done by aggressor forces, in Iran or Afghanistan is an especially bitter reminder there are still too many women and girls worldwide suffering from persecution.
• It will take years to determine the extent of the atrocities committed by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. We support the creation of a special court or tribunal to investigate crimes of aggression.
• “More than 1 in 3 women experience gender-based violence during their lifetime.Everyone deserves to live free from fear and violence.” (PM Kallas 25.11.2022)
